Director’s Statement. The New York subway is a mystery to me. I have been riding it for thirteen years. My relation to it is visceral. Most of the movie stems from my daily subway rides, it flows inspired by “tranches de vie”, life as it happens, like notes jotted down. The film’s aesthetic is designed to create a mental space, not a factual account of a subway journey. We did not film the New York subway, we filmed desires, fears, and moments of idleness.
